Yoga for Pregnancy and Birth Education Classes
My approach to Pregnancy yoga is Scaraveilli inspired, the focus is on going inward and connecting with your body in preparation for birth. There are classes at Elgin Yoga Centre on Monday evenings from 6.30 - 8.30pm.
For birth, a woman needs is the ability to yield, soften and let go. She benefits from the ability to surrender to the sensations within her and move as instinctively guided by her body. My approach to yoga isn't about stretching or strengthening. It's about tuning inwards and getting to know your body, becoming curious about how it moves. In our softness lies our greatest strength. The classes encourage mindful movement, rest and connection.
Relax is not collapse, the body is alive and vibrant and very wise. When undisturbed a woman instinctively knows how to birth her baby, it's the nature of who we are and this has enabled us as a species to thrive.
For pelvic, back pain or other symptoms of pregnancy, when we create space and softness within, there is room for the body to balance itself and the potential to release tightness and tension arises. We don't necessarily need to pull, stretch or move in straight lines, this isn't natures way.
The final part of the class is spent with a cup or tea and biscuits discussing a birth related topic and any questions that may arise. Feel free to get in touch with any questions :)

What others have said...
“A huge thank you for the wonderful yoga class. I really love the pregnancy yoga. It’s so nurturing and really relaxing.”(Sarah)
‘I started going to Fiona’s yoga classes when I started to get hip and pelvis pain in my pregnancy and realised I needed support to keep fit.
On arrival I immediately felt it was a very calming environment and everyone was so welcoming and friendly which instantly made me feel at ease. I really enjoyed the variety of doing something different each week and learning different ways to support and manage both physically and mentally through my pregnancy.
We always had time to discuss various topics, Fiona’s knowledge, experience and information being very helpful.
What I most enjoyed was the time I got to really focus on myself and tune out from everything else happening in life, I always came away feeling super relaxed and in a better place both mentally and physically. (Nicola)
Fiona’s yoga classes are excellent. She is a fount of knowledge when it comes to preparing for birth. The yoga in her classes teaches you to move your body intuitively, which is essential for birth. She also includes a relaxation part to the class, which always helps me to sleep better that evening and allows time to bond with my baby. The final part of the class is a discussion about an aspect of pregnancy/birth, where Fiona brings her extensive knowledge and experience to the class. This has helped me feel much more prepared for pregnancy and birth, which is invaluable as a first time mum. Fiona is extremely approachable and always willing to help out and point us in the direction of helpful resources online. Thank you Fiona for helping me feel more relaxed and prepared for the final stages of pregnancy and giving birth. (Emily)
